Multiplayer and Coop in Backpack Battles Explained
Backpack Battles is an upcoming inventory management rougelike on Steam. Find out if there will be multiplayer and coop modes in the game in this guide.
Backpack Battles expands on the novel idea from Backpack Hero, released in 2022. In this game, the better organized your backpack is, the stronger you are. You can also combine items inside your inventory to craft new equipment, and pick heroes with different playstyles. Backpack Battles has a free demo out on Steam, but does it include multiplayer and co-op?
Multiplayer and Coop in Backpack Battles Explained
Unfortunately, Backpack Battles does not feature a co-op mode at this stage. There is no information available about it possibly coming in the future, either.
However, multiplayer PvP is available in a particular form. The gameplay alternates visits at the shop with the opportunity to reorganize your backpack, and battles. Then, once you click the “Start Backpack Battle” button, you are automatically matched to a player somewhere in the world. That means you can’t choose to play against your friends.
At the start of the game, you have an option to pick New Ranked Game or New Unranked Game. Both modes are tha same in terms of gameplay. The difference is that if you choose the first option, you will gain ranks for the given character. If you switch heroes, you will have to start from the bottom again. However, as for now there is no leaderboard of strongest players that you could view.
As of the patch 0.3.5, Backpack Battles added a Survival mode, which can be activated after achieving 10 wins in a run. If you make it through 18 rounds without losing all your lives, you will get additional rewards.
Keep in mind that Backpack Battles is in the pre-release period and various new features could be added in the future.
