CD Projekt RED will probable reach an agreement with Sapkowski.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Andrzej Sapkowski is said to be well underway to settle things with CD Projekt RED;
  1. The writer will probably receive a certain amount of money, but it will be smaller than his last year's claim.

The information aroused a lot of controversy, not only in Poland – some took the writers side, the majority, however, stood by CD Projekt, pointing out to the sanctity of contracts and the general transparency of the rules of conducting business. Fortunately, as reported by Puls Biznesu, a Polish-language newspaper devoted to business and economic issues (via Stockwatch), the case will most likely end with a settlement. The agreements have not yet been completed – so nothing is certain at this point– but the talks are going well.

“An agreement is being consulted between the two parties. The result should be known within a month. There is a chance for a settlement, but nothing is carved in stone at this point,” comments Puls Biznesu, referring to an insider source.

According to another informant, the writer will most probably receive some money, but it is unlikely to be the claimed sum of PLN 60 million ($16 million).

It may take the form of an „appreciation” of Sapkowski’s input. The characters he has created, his talent and potential when it came to helping the company in developing ideas, notes the newspaper’s informant.

This is good news, which in fact should also be enjoyed by those who were of the opinion that Sapkowski should not get a single penny. CD Projekt Red does not need additional problems at the moment, and the stock exchanges would certainly not respond kindly to further controversies around the studio's key (and only, for the time being) major brand – at least until the release of Cyberpunk 2077, which, in the opinion of some, may sell better than the idiomatic hot cakes.
