This time, however, the assumptions, graphical engine and completely new gameplay solutions have been introduced, making Kagure Z a completely new product. The title still remains an action game with a view from behind the back, but offers a much better performance than the rest of the series.

The player can choose between three character classes - warrior, mage and murderer, and fights a horde of creatures in the gloomy underworlds of a destroyed city. The player once again assumes the role of Gabriel Belmont, who decides to help the Queen of Vampires by the name of Laura - a former subordinate of Carmilla, whom Gabriel defeated in the base game. Both the characters set out for a dangerous journey, during which they encounter powerful, dark forces awakened after the defeat of Lords of Shadow.
