Japanese Version of Resident Evil: Village Will be Censored

According to a statement from Capcom, the Japanese version of Resident Evil: Village will be censored according to the standards of the country's CERO organization.

If you're familiar with Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, then you're certainly aware of how many unpleasant, even gruesome scenes the game contains. Whether it's running around with a severed hand or smashing enemies' heads to a pulp with a shotgun. You can expect more of the same from the next installment of the series, Resident Evil Village, unless you live in Japan. Capcom informed the Japanese version will be censored, effectively stripping the release of more drastic content like decapitations and even changing some of the scenes that appear in the title (via HeyPoorPlayer.com).

The censorship will be follow the guidelines of CERO, which is the national content rating organization for digital entertainment. Although Capcom claims that there will be no particular differences between the Japanese version and the one released overseas, we can expect CERO to strip the game of the aforementioned decapitations, blood or other similar content.

It is also known that there will be two versions available on the Japanese market. The first one, designated as CERO D, will be for the players aged seventeen and older and will contain much less violence than the second edition, CERO Z, which was designed with adults in mind. In both versions, you won't see limbs being cut off or shot off, the blood color will be toned down accordingly, and the amount of blood will be reduced. In addition, Capcom confirms that some scenes will be changed or removed due to CERO regulations. The devs have not revealed which scenes will be censored, probably to avoid spoilers.

Resident Evil: Village will be released on May 7, 2021 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, as well as Xbox One and Series X|S.
