Resident Evil VII: Biohazard for PC, PS4 and XONE is an action-adventure survival horror. Gameplay of the two former instalments of this incredibly-popular series switched from thrilling to rather dynamic and impressively-looking. The seventh instalment, however, returns to the series' roots.

Still, this does not mean that the creators from one of Capcom's studios went old-school all the way. The developers chose the most important survival horror elements, such as a heavy atmosphere, the difficulty, and always-too-scarce ammunition, and then blended it with modern elements, like the first-person perspective and extensive exploration sequences.

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard was announced in 2016 on E3 expo where the fans and press gave a warm welcome to the change of perspective and emphasis on horror elements.

Resident Evil Game Series

Resident Evil is a series of Japanese survival horrors published by Capcom. Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara are mainly responsible for its creation. The series started on March 22, 1996, with the release of Resident Evil (also known as Biohazard) on the PlayStation console. It was during its marketing campaign that the term survival horror was coined. The prototype of the series is the game Sweet Home released in 1989, based on the film of the same name. Fujiwara himself was responsible for it, and many elements, such as QTE sequences or inventory management, were transferred to the Biohazard series. Since then, it has grown steadily, gaining more game installments, as well as movie, animation, comic book and novel adaptations.

The Hard-Earned Success that Nearly Killed Resident Evil

One of the best – and in many people's opinion, definitely the best – instalments of the Resident Evil series was created in pain, producing not only the original game, but also two others. And also driving the whole series into a dead end.

Expansion

December 12, 2017

Action

A free expansion to a well-received survival horror game - Resident Evil VII: Biohazard developed by Capcom. The game allows the player to assume the role of a new, yet perfectly known to the series’ fans character – a mercenary by the name of Chris Redfield, working for Umbrella Co., which deals with gathering data from the abandoned Umbrella facilities. Together with his companions, Chris comes to the Bakers’ residence to investigate its ruins and the underground tunnels. Unlike Ethan Winters – the main protagonist of the base game – the new character is a well-trained soldier, who has a modern arsenal at his disposal. This time around, the gameplay does not revolve around sneaking past enemies; on the contrary, the player gets to fight the enemies with all guns blazing (the expansion introduces a new type of monster). Not a Hero is available free to all those who own the base game. Additionally, players who buy Resident Evil VII: Biohazard – Gold edition also have access to the add-on, as well as the base game and three more paid expansions.
