When Sir Bernard was ordered to give Henry his own mount he was taken aback. This arrogant yokel was being shown great favor and far too much leniency. He decided that if he must give a horse to this upstart then he would teach him a lesson in the bargain so he chose Black

Cloud for him.

The dark-haired stallion had been purchased with a number of mounts earlier that week and while he was undeniably a fine specimen he was a wild, willful

beast that had already thrown and badly injured three experienced cavalrymen.

Sir Bernard and his men smiled as the young blacksmith’s apprentice approached the great steed, waiting for the show, but then something surprising

happened. Black Cloud was poorly treated before coming to Rattey and took offense to haughty men dressed in armor. When the wide-eyed boy, thrilled to have his own mount, approached the horse he did so with respect and reverence. Black Cloud liked that and allowed him to climb on his back.

Bernard and his men exchanged surprised looks but then turned to the business at hand. There was work to be done.
