Necronomicon: The Dawning of Darkness - Game Mod - Steam Fix - Download

Steam Fix is a mod for Necronomicon: The Dawning of Darkness, created by  Primal Fear.

It fixe the most annoying bugs in Steam version of the game

fter you performed the summoning of Eliphas Levy the game will first skip the cool videos it should play after that and you will simply end up at "some place with Edward" (to keep it spoiler free). Also your alchemic briefcase will be greyed out, which means that you will not be able to progress later in the game when you need to access it. The guys who sell this game seem to be unable to fix that, but I found a simple solution for this problem using the Necrono.exe of my disk version from 2001.

How to do?

Open the installation folder of the game, you find it under ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Necronomicon The Dawning of Darkness. Here you might want to rename the old Necrono.exe before applying my .exe from the disc version in case you have any problems with it, so you can easily recover the old one. But if not, just verifying the game cache would do that job too.

Download the mod and extract the archive into game’s folder That's it, and as well as before you can still start the game either through Steam or directly via the Necrono.exe.

Now you need to load a save game from before the summoning video, obviously to watch the videos but also to keep the alchemic briefcase this time.

Alternatively you already applied the fix before playing that far, then just enjoy the game.

Problems that still occur later in the game

There are still two bugs later in the game that can be really annoying. Luckily they are easy to avoid.

After the previously missing video sequences have played, you end up normally at "some place with Edgar" and you can still access the briefcase. If you now use the inventory or the pause menu, the game will restart all the videos after that. While that isn't that much of a problem (you can skip the videos by pressing Space), you shouldn't save in that area or this specific save game will be corrupted in the way that you cannot open the inventory or pause menu anymore. Of course that means you cannot keep on playing and also that you have to use the Task Manager to quit the game after loading that save game.

In the library, shortly after that, you can browse the book shelves. With the German language (English works normally, I didn't test other languages) the problem is that in certain areas on these shelves the game simply crashes. The good thing is that these book shelves are just optional, you can just find there some book titles that are not important for the game. The librarian may ask you to find some books for him, but you will find them.
