Welcome back to Aperture Science. This project is a transformative update for Portal 2, designed to leverage the full power of NVIDIA's RTX Remix to overhaul the game's visuals with full ray tracing, physically-based materials, and enhanced assets, all while honoring the original's timeless art direction. This is more than just a texture pack; it's a complete remastering effort to create the definitive path-traced Portal 2 experience.

LIST OF FEATURES & IMPROVEMENTS

1. This mod is a comprehensive overhaul aimed at creating a fully-featured, stable, and visually stunning gameplay experience from start to finish.
2. Complete Path-Traced Lighting: Experience Aperture Science with realistic shadows, reflections, and global illumination powered by RTX Remix. Every light source casts physically accurate light and shadow.
3. Full PBR Material Overhaul: Nearly every asset in the game has been meticulously upgraded with a full suite of Physically-Based Rendering (PBR) materials, including roughness, metallic, height, and normal maps for incredible surface detail and realism.
4. Hand-Crafted Assets: In this latest version, a significant number of assets have been completely remastered by hand in Substance Painter, offering a unique, high-quality touch that surpasses simple AI upscaling.
5. Enhanced Lighting & Atmosphere: This latest update adds dynamic skylights to numerous test chambers and implements per-light volumetrics to more closely match the original game's iconic visual design and atmosphere.
6. High-Fidelity Details: From redesigned portal walls and reflective puddle decals with full height maps to subsurface scattering on foliage, every detail has been considered to enhance immersion.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1: INSTALL THE COMPATIBILITY MOD

First, you'll need the compatibility mod to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Download the compatibility mod from here: Github.com.

Open the zip file and copy the contents from inside the p2-rtx folder.

Paste these contents into your main Portal 2 root folder. This is the folder where the game's main executable (portal2.exe) is located.

Note: Only maps up until Act 2 (catapult intro) are touched up. Other maps might look weird / dark.

STEP 2: INSTALL THE BASE REMIX MOD

Next, install the base mod which provides the core RTX features.

Download the base remix mod from the repository: Github.com.

Locate the rtx-remix folder within your Portal 2 root folder. If it doesn't exist, create it.

Extract the downloaded base mod and place the mods folder into the rtx-remix folder.

STEP 3: INSTALL SKURTYY'S PORTAL 2 RTX PBR PACK

Now, you can add your custom "package" mod with its unique textures and features.

Place your mod folder, named package, into the same rtx-remix/mods folder.

STEP 4: LAUNCH THE GAME

With all the mods installed, you are ready to launch the game and see your work in action.

Navigate to your Portal 2 root folder.

Run run-p2-rtx.bat. You may need to run this as an administrator if your game is installed in the Program Files directory.
