Description:
This tool is designed to eliminate stuttering in games caused by shader compilation. Some games pre-compile shaders before gameplay begins, thereby avoiding these issues. Others, however, compile them in the background while gameplay is in progress. As a result, when a game encounters a new effect, the graphics card driver compiles the appropriate shader on the fly, and the frame has to wait: this is the stutter caused by shader compilation. The result is annoying stuttering in games, especially noticeable when traveling through the game world.
The SCSKiller program reads the shaders included with the game, analyzes which pipelines will be created, and compiles them in advance into the driver’s cache—as part of its own process while the game is closed. As a result, the game no longer has to perform these compilations during gameplay, thereby eliminating stuttering issues.
The results are very good. For example, in *Hogwarts Legacy*, during a 5-minute gameplay session on an RTX 5090, there are as many as 1,000 microstutters (those lasting longer than 24 ms). However, after SCSKiller compiles the shaders before gameplay, the number of these microstutters drops to just 87. An even greater difference can be seen in Jedi Survivor, where without SCSKiller there are as many as 9,000 micro-stutters, and with this tool, only 9.
Currently, the project supports games that use the Unreal and Unity engines, among others.
