Community Patch is a mod for Vietnam: Black Ops, created by markritchie.

Description:

An unofficial fan patch for Vietnam: Black Ops (2000, version 1.0a). It fixes controls on modern and non-English Windows, restores content the developers left unfinished, rebalances difficulty and weapons, and fixes level-data mistakes.

Controls

- Mouse buttons work on non-English Windows (the game ignored translated button names such as "Pulsante 0").

- Mouse wheel switches weapons; modern WASD defaults; menu arrow keys; Enter/Esc answer the quit dialog.

- The in-game Brightness slider works, applies immediately and no longer goes black at 0.

Gameplay

- New "Madness" difficulty (enemies deal 0.50x damage, with the original Hard aim and health).

- Hard is a smaller jump from Normal (better-balanced aim, damage and enemy health).

- M16 damage 15 -> 24; grenade launcher damage 50 -> 130, blast radius 120 -> 180.

- Player moves 30% faster on land, underwater and on ladders.

Levels

- Final level 7C: 17 health and ammo pickups added (it shipped with none).

- Fixed a sniper with perfect aim (5A) and an enemy who could never fire (6A).

- Restored water surfaces, footstep sounds, a debris model and cloud shadows.

Installation

1. Extract the BlackOpsPatch folder inside your game folder.

2. Run Install.bat.

The installer checks each file is version 1.0a, backs up your originals and keeps your own settings (resolution etc.). Uninstall.bat restores everything. Only changed bytes are included; no game data is distributed.

Compatible with the Vietnam: Black Ops FOV fix. For jittery or drifting mouselook with high polling-rate mice, use the DirectInput 1-7 to 8 wrapper or set the mouse to 125 Hz. Recommended: dgVoodoo 2 (an optimized config is included).
