You play as a University of Miskatonic professor, who receives a letter from a missing student. The student warns the professor against a dark cult involving much of the university's staff. The story is shown mostly via text with occasional pictures.

The game is set in the harbor town of Kingsport, where a mysterious ritual, which summons cosmic horrors, takes place once in every hundred years. You play as the cult leaders overseeing the ritual. Their task is to collect spells and artifacts that will allow them to conquer the port and defeat their enemies.

She wants to use the knowledge gained over the course of her studies to summon one of the Outer Gods, Shub-Niggurath.
