Surf World Series for PC, XONE and PS4 is a third person perspective game dedicated to surfing, a sport rarely portrayed in the video game industry. The game was developed by Climax, a British studio responsible for a number of titles, including Sudeki, Bloodforge, or Rocket Knight.
The authors decided to avoid introducing any type of plot. Instead, we are left with realistic recreations of all major surfing locations, including Bells Beach in Australia, or Waimea Bay in Hawaii. The players can choose from six surfers whose abilities and appearance can be further customized through an extensive personalization module.
The style of the game fits somewhere between a simulation and an arcade-oriented gameplay. The competitions are quite spectacular, yet the sport itself (i.e. keeping yourself afloat) requires a lot of effort. More experienced players can add surfing tricks to their runs, including Superman or Sushi Roll.
The players can choose from forty five challenges, comparing their results with the online community. We are also left with a multiplayer module consisting of three modes that offer online competitions for up to fifteen players at the same time.
Surf World Series is characteristic for its appealing three-dimensional visuals, including detailed water and realistically-behaving waves. The authors also introduced a number of suitable music tracks.
