  • Download the "Starter Pack" from the Download menu before you depart on your first hunt. The Starter Pack will give you a lot of valuable resources and will allow you to save a lot of time and money. The pack can be picked up at the housemaid in your house.
  • Don't buy new equipment right away. The one that you receive at the start of the game can be upgraded with a small cost and should serve you good for some time.
  • Pick two different weapon types: a main weapon that you will use for most of the time, as well as a supplementing one, giving you more flexibility in combat.
  • Always eat before starting a quest. Sometimes a simple meal can mean victory or defeat. Pick the meals in accordance to the objective you are hoping to accomplish.
  • Gather materials whenever you can! At the beginning of the game every material will be immensely helpful. There are no "useless" materials in MHGen - every single one of them will sooner or later be needed.
  • Try to purchase the "Organizer Guide" book on the market as soon as you can - this will allow you to stock more items in the chest.
  • Before you decide to hunt with other players, play for at least a few days in the single player mode. Not only it will allow you to gain the required experience with the game, as well as the new equipment, it will also save your potential companions from a lot of frustration.
  • When going on a gathering tour, think about switching to the cat form. Cats don't tire while running, they don't need any items in the inventory and are resistant to extreme temperatures!
  • If during combat (or even before it began) you lose the track of the monster, look around the sky for a cat observation balloon. Wave at it with the "Wave" emote (from the Gestures menu) and the location of the monster will appear for a short while on your mini-map.
  • The cat merchant (Neko) on the ranch is mainly used to gain access to the primary crafting materials from the farms, but with the Wycademy points you can purchase more exotic ones as well.
  • General stores in each village sometimes have a -50% discount on their goods. You should visit them in between your quests to check if such a sale is not happening at the moment - use the opportunity to stock up on resources.
  • Killing a monster is not always the best solution. Some of the crafting materials can be gained only by capturing the large monster alive.
  • There are other method of healing your character (as well as your whole party!), not only healing potions. Herbs and bitter bugs can be consumed to restore some of the health. Another item worth noting is the Lifepowder - using it will heal you and your companions as well.
  • Learn the combinations of different crafting materials in order to gain valuable resources as quickly as you can. Most of the useful items, tools and potions can only be gained through crafting.
  • There are two additional methods of acquiring crafting materials - Meownster Hunter on the range and Hunters for Hire in the Hub. Don't forget to use them regularly.
  • Changing hunting style doesn't come with any consequences. You can do that at any time from the chest menu in your house.
  • Armors prepared for Blademasters cannot be used in conjunction with weapons for Gunners - and vice versa. If you want to change your style from melee to ranged, you must also acquire a new set of armor.
  • ALWAYS speak with characters with yellow or red icons over their heads. They will give you quests thanks to which you will unlock numerous useful functions (new types of meals, hunting types, equipment and so on).
  • Completing each quest rewards with a sum of money, but you also must pay a small guild fee to be able to start the quest. Don't waste time and money on quests that you can't accomplish.
  • Each aspect of the game has a description and a tutorial associated with it. All of those can be accessed from the Help menu.

And finally: be patient. MHGen requires skills and proper planning. There's a reason that you won't be able to fin dany speed runners from Monster Hunter on YouTube. If the game starts frustrating you, train your skills during easier hunts, gain better equipment and get back to the difficult quests to advance. If you will rush and treat MHGen as any typical hack & slash game, you will quickly be brought to the ground. Hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay await for the patient players.
