Age of Empires II-inspired Empires Apart to be published by Slitherine in 2017

Empires Apart is an RTS inspired by Age of Empires II, aiming to combine classic and modern mechanics. The game is to be published by Slitherine in 2017.

Slitherine – a company who delivered a throng of classic strategy games, such as Panzer Corps, Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon, and Order of Battle: World War II – is going to publish Empires Apart. This modern/old-school RTS inspired by Ensemble Studios’ cult Age of Empires II has been worked on by Italian developer DESTINYbit for over a year now and is due some time in 2017.

Empires Apart is based on classic mechanics of the genre, therefore, your main tasks are to gather resources, build a base, recruit an army, and wage battles. The game will offer several Medieval civilizations, each one with unique buildings and units as well as different role: Rush, Boom or Support, which will be especially important in team-based multiplayer. The player will also be able to choose a specialization in order to boost a specific aspect of a faction (e.g. cavalry or navy), as well as a hero. If you want to learn more about Empires Apart’s mechanics, head over to the official website.

Empires Apart is based on Unreal Engine 4, but it has an original, old-school visual style, which you can see on the screenshots below:
