Waven is a free to play tactical RPG. It is a multiplayer game – you can play solo or against other people. The game features PvE and PvP. Player versus player is the mode which worries many fans, as they are wondering about P2W mechanics. In this guide we will talk about them.

Is Waven Pay to Win?

Waven is not Pay to Win. The truth is that you are able to buy premium pass, which gives some items (Kamas and Runes) which can boost your characters. However, fans notice that it is possible to collect them in-game. What is more, according to some, their amounts are not that big to make it a great difference for high-level characters.

It is also worth to mention that those bonuses are not included in PvP aspect of the game, so the boost is only available for PvE mode. This means that rather than P2W the game is P2F (Pay to Fast progress).

However, many players are worried about those mechanics regardless, as they are not in line with previous official announcement. One of the posts written by developers on the Steam forum states that:

Hello! WAVEN is totally free to play! Only cosmetics, gems (a form of currency), and goldpasses will be purchasable.

The goldpasses available during Alpha were included to test the feature with placeholder items/equipment to make gameplay a bit easier and more fun for players. So going forward, the goldpasses sold will not be the same as the ones players experienced during Alpha.

We want to reassure all players that there will be no P2W or P2F mechanics as that is not something we believe in whatsoever.

Hope this helps clear things up! We thank you all for your support and feedback.

Many fans cite this post, and underline that this message is something different than the state of the game right now. However, it is worth to remember that Waven is in Early Access and many things may change, including the monetization system. Some gamers have problems to purchase passes at all. If you are a player, or someone who would like to test Waven, observe situation, and wait for the official announcement in this case.
