Hitman 3 Will Offer Up to 300 NPCs at the Same Time

IO Interactive has announced a new map for Hitman 3, and informed that the game will be a small evolution in terms of the number of NPCs visible on screen at the same time.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. A new map for Hitman 3 has been revealed - it will be the neon-packed Chinese city Chongqing;
  2. The devs also want to take a step forward in the development of AI in video games - in some missions we will be able to see up to 300 NPCs at once.

For some time now, developers at IO Interactive have been revealing new locations from Hitman 3. In August, we got to know the English location called Dartmoor, inspired by the detective stories by Edgar Allan Poe and Arthur Conan Doyle, and today the devs released a short video in which they talked about the Chinese map Chongqing. At first glance, this map evokes associations with cyberpunk aesthetics thanks to a large number of neon signs, whose light is reflected in puddles in the night. If it will look like on the trailer, we can start worrying about our GPUs (the system requirements of the new Hitman are available here).

Looking carefully at the trailer, we will also notice a scene where Agent 47 passes through a room full of NPCs, and, well, it's not accidental. According to the devs, the game will provide support for up to 300 active NPCs at once. In practice, this means a lot more fun and gamers will be able to blend in more easily.

The above number isn't a coincidence, although we still don't know in how many missions we will have to deal with so many people at the same time. Nevertheless, there seems to be something to wait for, as the devs themselves claim to have tried to cross a certain line when it comes to the perception of AI in video games.

The video also confirmed that Hitman 3 will support 60 fps, 4K and HDR on consoles. The game will be coming in early 2021, on January 20 on PCs, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. There are also plans to release a streaming version for Nintendo Switch, but we'll wait a little longer for it. The game will be compatible with VR goggles.
