Rainbow Six: Siege patch buffs Kapkan and Mute

Rainbow Six: Siege has been updated to version 3.3, making Kapkan and Mute more powerful and increasing penalties for team killing.

Patch 3.4 in a nutshell:
  • Buffed Kapkan’s traps;
  • Improved Mute’s signal jammer;
  • Increased penalties for team killing in Ranked PvP;
  • Boosters are now twice as effective.

Rainbow Six: Siege—a 2015’s tactical FPS game by Ubisoft and the latest installment in the cult Rainbow Six series—was updated to version 3.3 yesterday. The new patch makes Kapkan and Mute, some of the weakest and least chosen operators in PvP matches, more powerful. The former can now place his traps at any height in doorframes and windows. What’s better, his unique gadget is now actually difficult to spot thanks to the less visible laser sensor beam and the lack of the giant red screw on the far side of the wall. The latter (Mute, that is) got a better signal disruptor with jamming zone expanded from 1.5 meters to 2.25 meters, making it almost impossible for the drones to jump through. The developers also revealed that before the latest patch “Kapkan had the 4th weakest win ratio and 2nd lowest pick rate[, while] Mute had the 5th lowest pick rate, 2nd lowest kill/death average, and 2nd lowest win rate”. The second highlight of patch 3.3 are increased penalties for team killing in Ranked PvP matches. The details are as follows:

  • First offense: Banned from Ranked Matchmaking for 15 minutes, 50% renown penalty for 30 minutes.
  • Second offense: Banned from Ranked Matchmaking for 30 minutes.
  • Third offense: Banned from Ranked Matchmaking for 2 hours.
  • Fourth offense: Banned from Ranked Matchmaking for 24 hours.
  • Fifth offense: Banned from Ranked Matchmaking for 7 days.

Duration of a suspension will be decided at Ubisoft’s discretion, on a case by case basis. After multiple offenses, the player may receive up to a permanent ban.

Ubisoft has also promised to share more information on team killing penalties in Casual PvP matches that are going to be implemented in Patch 3.4 in July.

And finally, as of Patch 3.3, all kinds of boosters are now twice as effective, basically speaking. Here are the details:

Now […] Renown Boosters provide the player with 100% extra Renown, alongside providing everyone else in the party with a 10% Renown Boost. For each subsequent player with a Renown Boost, every other player will receive an additional 10% Renown Boost, up to a maximum of 140%. Finally, if everyone in the team owns a Booster, they will all get an additional 50% Renown, bringing the new total bonus Renown to 190%.

That’s a lot of renown to enhance your weapons and operators and even to unlock the new ones introduced in two free DLCs, Operation Black Ice and Operation Dust Line, released thus far. If you are willing to spend money on boosters, that is.
