It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you start a new campaign for testing.

Adding or removing this mod mid-campaign is NOT SUPPORTED and will likely corrupt your save file. Please only test with new games or on copies of saves you don't care about.

Overview

This mod transforms Calradia's simplistic diplomacy into a dynamic, strategic, and logical system. It introduces brand new diplomatic options like Non-Aggression Pacts and Alliances while overhauling the vanilla war and peace mechanics. Gone are the days of random, nonsensical wars. Every diplomatic action is now driven by a sophisticated AI that pursues a single ultimate goal: conquering the map.

Key Features

1. NEW - Non-Aggression Pacts: For the first time, forge temporary non-aggression pacts to secure a border while you focus on another front. This brand-new system allows for strategic planning previously impossible in Calradia. AIs will prioritize pacts with neighbors, and each kingdom is limited to a maximum of two, forcing them to make meaningful choices.
2. NEW - Formal Alliances: Escalate your diplomatic relationships by forming a true military alliance, a feature new to the game. When an ally is attacked, you will be called to their defense, and they to yours. Alliances create powerful blocs that can dominate the map or form a bulwark against a greater foe.
3. Calculated Wars & Opportunistic AI: The AI no longer declares war randomly. It builds "war desire" over time and carefully evaluates potential targets based on distance, strength, and opportunity. It prefers to attack weaker neighbors but is smart enough to know when to take risks.
4. Ruler-Led Diplomacy (No More Voting): The chaotic kingdom voting system for war and peace declarations has been disabled for the AI. Faction rulers now make the final call based on the new strategic logic. This ensures decisive, cohesive action, preventing a single illogical lord from vetoing a necessary war or a vital peace treaty. This is subject to change, but because the ai clan members have no base logic for voting (its still super random),
5. The "Anti-Snowball" System: The most important strategic feature. The AI is now hard-coded to recognize a "snowballing" empire (one that is dominant in both military strength and territory). Kingdoms will now team up and dogpile a runaway faction, especially if it's already distracted by other wars, ensuring a more balanced and challenging late-game.
6. Intelligent Peace & War Exhaustion: Peace is now as strategic as war. Each kingdom tracks "war exhaustion" for every individual conflict. An AI will sue for peace when a war becomes too costly, its armies are depleted, or the tribute demands are too high. It uses the game's own tribute calculations to make an informed financial decision.
7. Transparent AI Decisions: You'll no longer be left wondering why a kingdom declared war. The AI will now announce its primary strategic reason for declaring war or making peace, giving you a clear window into its calculations.

How is the AI Smarter? A Vanilla vs. Mod Breakdown

Diplomatic Decisions

1. Vanilla: War and peace are decided by a vote of all clan lords, often leading to indecisive or illogical outcomes.
2. This Mod: Rulers Only. The chaotic voting system is disabled for the AI. Faction rulers now make all final war and peace decisions based on the new strategic logic.

Non-Aggression Pacts

1. Vanilla: No such system exists.
2. This Mod: New Feature. Forms temporary, strategic pacts to manage borders and enable focused aggression. Limited to two pacts per kingdom.

Alliances

1. Vanilla: No such system exists.
2. This Mod: New Feature. Forms true military blocs with pact partners, automatically calling allies into wars and making peace together.

War Declarations

1. Vanilla: Randomly declares war and peace.
2. This Mod: Decisions are based on a calculated "desire" score that builds over time. The AI acts when the strategic moment is right.

Targeting

1. Vanilla: Often declares war on factions across the map for no reason.
2. This Mod: Heavily prioritizes neighbors and applies severe penalties for targeting distant, irrelevant kingdoms.

Threats

1. Vanilla: Is often oblivious to a powerful kingdom steamrolling the map.
2. This Mod: Actively identifies snowballing threats and forms coalitions to take them down.

Peace

1. Vanilla: Makes peace randomly, regardless of war progress.
2. This Mod: Tracks war exhaustion and uses the game's tribute system to decide if peace is financially and militarily viable.

How to Interact With the New System

Due to the complexity of the new systems, a full diplomacy UI is not yet implemented. Here is how you can engage with the new features:

Non-Aggression Pacts & Alliances: These are now handled through personal diplomacy. To propose or end a pact or alliance, you must speak directly with the ruler of another faction. New dialogue options will appear, allowing you to manage your diplomatic relationships. The AI will evaluate your proposals using the same sophisticated logic it uses for other AI kingdoms.

War & Peace: These actions are still initiated through the Kingdom screen (Diplomacy tab).

Proposing Peace to the AI: You can no longer force an unwilling enemy to the peace table. The "Propose Peace" button in the diplomacy screen will notify you they are unwilling to make peace unless the enemy AI's "peace desire" is high enough. You will need to fight them until they are genuinely ready to consider a ceasefire."

How to install the mod

Unzip the archive to "... bannerlord\Modules\" and activate in the launcher.

Note: the mod requires the Harmony project to work.
