QuakeSpasm is a *Nix friendly Quake Engine based on the SDL port of the popular FitzQuake. It includes some new features, important fixes, and aims for portability and 64 bit correctness. It was created by. ewasylishen, sezero and stevenaaus.

Instructions:

In this archive you will find both the standard (ie..32-bit) version of this project as well as 64-bit one.Pick one and copy it’s folder somewhere. There into that folder copy the „ld1” folder from Quake. The run Quakespasm’s exe file.

QuakeSpasm or DarkPlaces?

Both options are incredible, but have different goals. If you want to stick to vanilla style then pick Quakespasm. It looks more like GLQuake but with HD texture support. Darkplaces is a beefy engine to give next get visuals to Quake with HD textures with Bump, Normal, Gloss, and Specular mapping, real-time lighting and shaodws, high-poly models, fancy weather effects and other visual bells and whistles. to make it more vusually stunning and more technically demanding.
