Operation “Black Nest” is a short experimental modification built on the X-ray 1.6 engine, serving as a loose remake of the mission of the same name from the game Venom. Codename: Outbreak by GSC Game World. The goal of the modification was to recreate certain features of the original game using the Call of Pripyat engine.

For example, it implements a modular rifle with switchable modes and the ability to control not only the main character but also his partner. Due to the short-format nature of the modification, some mechanics, such as selecting your team and equipment before starting the mission were left “overboard.”

The game’s setting has been shifted from 2012 (the actual year) to 2034 (listed in the description of the original but not reflected in the game itself). Otherwise, the premise remains the same: Earth narrowly avoided collision with a comet, but meteorites from its tail rained heavily onto the planet’s surface.
