Unofficial Patch is a mod for Neverhood, created by RangerKoc.

Description:

This mod acts as an unofficial patch, making the game more playable on modern PCs.

What this patch does:

1. Fixes compatibility issues with operating systems starting with Windows XP;
2. Fixes graphics issues (color distortion, rainbow effects, flickering);
3. Fixes slowdowns during cutscenes and while moving in first-person view;
4. Allows you to play without the CD;
5. Allows you to use files in the saves directory instead of the registry as save files;
6. Automatically exports save files from the registry to the saves directory on first launch.

How to install the mod:

Extract the archive to the game folder.

Disable all compatibility settings for the nhc.exe file.

How to install the game:

If you have the boxed version, installing the game itself is currently a problem, as it requires Windows 95. However, there is a workaround:

1. Create a new folder where the game will be placed (<path-to-game>).

2. Copy the following files from the setup folder on the CD to <path-to-game>:

nhc.exe

smackw32.dll

readme.txt (optional)

3. Copy the DATA folder from the CD to <game-path>.

4. Use the nhc.exe file to launch the game.
