Dwarf Fortress will be released on Steam. The brothers Tarn and Zach Adams, who are responsible for the production, have decided that a paid version will be available. The new edition will receive a completely new graphic design and soundtrack. When can we expect the release? Good question. The Steam product card states only that "time is a relative concept" in place of a release date.
According to the official communication, the reason for this decision is the health problems of one of the brothers and the uncertainty about the profits on Patreon. Thanks to the new graphics, which the modders Micha³ "Mayday" Madej and Patrick Martin "Meph" Schroeder are working on, the production will become more accessible for players. According to the devs' assurances, both versions of the game will be constantly supported and updated. Below you will find a short trailer that compares both versions of Dwarf Fortress.
It is worth recalling that Dwarf Fortress is a production developed since 2002. The game is a unique combination of roguelike and strategy, in which the task is to develop a dwarven settlement. The game became famous for its very high level of difficulty and minimal graphic design based on ASCII code characters.
