The latest season of The Witcher is not flawless. But at the same time, it manages to retain the atmosphere. In a few places, the creators decided to clearly depart from the book original. Did it benefit the show?

Yennefer losing her powers after the Battle of Sodden

This is one of the better themes of the new season. Geralt's lover has to struggle not only with her traumatic memories of the Battle of Sodden, but also with the physical consequences of using powerful fire magic. Although her former superior, Tissaia de Vries (played by, as brilliant as ever, MyAnna Buring) does her best to clear her good name, the insidious Stregobor from season one insinuates that Yennefer has been working with Nilfgaard.
What the sorceress doesn't want to reveal, however, is that Fringilla Vigo's ambush wasn't the only thing that delayed her return (though she's unwilling to share this information, as well), but also the fact that she lost her powers. Yennefer is therefore plagued by nightmares in a great surrealistic style. Combined with the theme of a curse or spell that the sorceress has long refused to succumb to, this results in one of the most interesting storylines over the course of several episodes. It sounds complicated on paper, but it works brilliantly in the show.
However, ultimately entrusting your fate to a witch will have its consequences. What kind of consequences, you may ask? We will most likely find out in the third or fourth season of the series. For this reason, the events from books will probably have to be slightly modified. But in this case, it can be considered a DLC of sorts to the story written by Sapkowski.
Cahir helping Yen and Yen helping Cahir was one of those plotlines that kept you in suspense until the very end. For a moment I was certain that the sorceress was really going to kill the knight with the plumed helmet. And then I was convinced that Cahir would join the Northern armies. It was also important to sensitize both of them to the fate of the elves. I wonder what will come of this in the next season of Netflix's hit series.
