Here's another holy grail of anime. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is Hayao Miyazaki's second feature-length film. The artist did not disappoint this time – he created a truly amazing, dark world that has its own rules. Ravaged by wars, the Earth struggles with a repulsive and extremely deadly forest of poisonous plants and fungi, spreading to more and more territories. As if that wasn't enough, it is inhabited by huge, dangerous insects.

In the eponymous Valley of the Wind lives Princess Nausicaa, the daughter of the king of this breadbasket of a land, where the "wind of the gods" constantly blows away the fumes of Ugor. The princess is endowed with an extraordinary talent that allows her to communicate with insects. Her idyllic and rebellious life soon changes dramatically as a mighty ship with a mysterious cargo on board crashes in the Valley of the Wind, and its owners appear shortly after. Thus begins a struggle in which not only the existence of the valley is threatened, but perhaps also the ecological balance of the entire planet.

Future in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

The Valley of the Wind presents a world whose inhabitants live in small enclaves separated by a beautiful, yet dangerous forest; all working hard for their livelihood. People against Mother Nature. After all, damaged nature is almost always the work of man.

The Trees of Ugoru were created to cleanse a world poisoned by humans...

The Fall must be abolished in order for humanity to survive. Is man really able to overcome nature? Well, sooner or later nature will be reborn. Of course, not everyone wants to fight it. In the film, it's the Torumekians and Pejite who declare real war on Ugor and the insects. A small group, however, wants to prevent this and find a different, better solution.
