Apex Point Description
Apex Point is an independent game created by Apex Studio, a team of automotive enthusiasts, which started development in 2018. The game is a sandbox set in Japan, combining elements of a racing game and a car mechanics simulator emphasizing tuning.
Gameplay
Apex Point begins with us buying our own car at a used-vehicle dealership. Having spent our modest budget we then take it to our garage, where we can tinker with it (from an FPP perspective).
Once we have replaced all damaged components, we can start making mechanical and visual enhancements, both on the inside and the outside. The developers emphasize freedom above all else, letting us modify our car with focus on street racing, drifting, drag racing or others. We earn money by competing or repairing and selling cars.
Apex Point is a rather realistic game. This applies not only to the driving physics (though things can be made easier by activating assist options) and the complexity of tuning, but also world simulation. For example, we must make sure installed modifications don't make our vehicle unregisterable - otherwise, using it in traffic runs the risk of severe fines.
There are no officially licensed cars in the game, but iconic Japanese models such as the Toyota AE86 and the fifth-generation Honda Civic are still easily recognizable.
Game modes
At the time of its early access release, Apex Point features only open world singleplayer gameplay.
Technology
Apex Point runs on Unity 3D. While the car models are quite detailed, the environment is rather simple. Nevertheless, the developers haven't forgotten to include dynamic weather and a day-and-night cycle.
