Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing is a race title in which we use giant 18-wheeled trucks to compete. The assumption is this: we play the role of a truck driver, whose task is to transport the cargo to the indicated address faster than the competition will do. Haste means, in many cases, breaking road traffic regulations, which is why the police often sit on our backs.

We can choose from four carts: Thunder, Megaone, Thunderbull and Sunrise W12. In practice it doesn't matter which one you choose, because you don't see any differences in the way you drive your vehicles. However, only two machines have a trailer for goods. The same applies to routes, as the names (Devil Passage 1 and 2, Forgotten Road, Nightride, Small Town Road) suggest differentiation, and yet in reality they are very similar to each other.

The main pros of the game

  • Achievements: The game features an achievement system that unlocks automatically, which some users found amusing, even if they consider it a gimmick.
  • Nostalgia: For some players, the game holds nostalgic value as a piece of gaming history, providing a unique experience that deviates from traditional game mechanics.

The main cons of the game

  • Technical Issues: The game is plagued by numerous bugs, including lack of collision detection, poor AI, and overall unfinished mechanics. Players have reported severe performance issues, including high CPU and GPU usage.
  • Sketchy Launcher: The game is packaged with a suspicious launcher (the "Winner Wizard") that many users believe could be malware or a poorly designed program that consumes resources unnecessarily.
  • No Real Gameplay: The core gameplay is fundamentally flawed, with players often able to exploit the mechanics (e.g., driving infinitely fast in reverse) to the point where it lacks any real challenge or competition.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Real Enhancements: Users noted that the game is essentially the same as the original version available for free online, with no significant improvements or updates to the gameplay or graphics.
  • Functional Multiplayer or Competitive Elements: Many players expected some form of competitive gameplay or AI challenge, but the game fails to deliver on this front, as the opponent does not move.
  • Quality Control: There is a general consensus that the game was released without proper testing or quality assurance, leading to a lack of polish and functionality that players would expect from a commercially released game.

Summary

  • In summary, while Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing has garnered a following for its infamous reputation and absurdity, it is widely criticized for its technical shortcomings and questionable re-release practices.
