Chambara is an independent PC, PS4 and XONE game by Overly Kinetic studio created in the Dare to be Digital competition in 2014. A few months after the premiere of the early version of the production (available for free on the official website) in digital distribution on PCs, it was appreciated by the jury of British BAFTA awards. He received a statuette in the category Ones to Watch.

The game is an unusual project designed to play in a local multiplayer. The production action takes place in a two-colour world, in which we stand up to fight as a ninja. The gameplay is based on using colors to hide and attack enemies with surprise. If, for example, we are a black warrior, we become invisible by the wall of the same color, although the opponent looking at us not directly, but from the side, for example, can see the shape of the character, thus exposing us. The game is therefore based on quiet movement and careful observation of the environment, because literally every place can be endangered. Naturally, this also works the other way round.

High-Def Digest: 3 / 5 by Tyler Treese

The first game published by USC features a fantastic concept that is executed well, but one that really feels like it could've used some more time to be fleshed out. 'Chambara' is a fun local multiplayer diversion, but the lack of online play and variety really stifles the overall experience. Hopefully a sequel will be able to take the game to the next level, but as of now I'm left with a rad proof of concept that is best played in short bursts.

Chambara lacks solo play, but its fast-paced kinetic action makes for a thrilling co-op experience.

Push Square: 8 / 10 by Jacob Hull

Chambara is a smart, stylish, and truly entertaining game to play locally with friends and family. There's a timeless class to games of this ilk which offer experiences that you simply cannot get elsewhere. As long as you can provide a steady stream of willing players to engage with, Chambara returns the favour with a limited but excellent selection of arenas to engage with them in.
