A strategy game in which we develop a civilization at the ideas level. In Civilization Directive we make difficult decisions regarding morality, faith, power, freedom, and logic, instead of waging war in the classic sense, overseeing the economy, or expanding cities.
Strategy games that allow us to lead entire civilizations have accustomed us to the idea that the path to world domination involves war, diplomacy, or broadly defined economic or cultural development. Civilization Directive, created by the independent studio Haoting, approaches the matter differently, as it allows us to operate on the level of forming ideas.
The gameplay in Civilization Directive takes place on a geographical map of the world. During the game we assume the role of the Arbiter of Consciousness, and our task is to make decisions about which civilizations should survive and which should be suppressed.
The driving force of the game is a unique experiment aimed at redefining the boundaries between collective and individual consciousness. This means that our decisions not only determine the fate of the masses but also affect the lives of individual characters we encounter. These characters represent politics, culture, and science, and they are varied in terms of motivations and beliefs.
Unlike most other games of this type, we do not recruit armies, conduct wars in the traditional sense, or build and expand cities. Instead, we make choices in areas such as morality, faith, power, freedom, or logic. Additionally, we regularly participate in events that can have both local and global dimensions, impacting the fate of entire civilizations.
The outcomes of many of our decisions are shaped by the results of dice rolls. If one of these final outcomes turns out to be unfavorable, it does not mean the end of the game. It simply means that the course of the world will follow a different direction than the one we desire. Various factions appear here, such as Drazthar, Awakeners, or Zyra-Nul, which we must confront by interacting with their representatives.
Civilization Directive takes us into a sci-fi universe. After peace was established in the galaxy, the Interstellar Civilization Alliance introduced the Expansion Species Restriction Act to maintain stability and order in this corner of the cosmos. As representatives of this initiative, we oversee the development of the world and guide it through subsequent transformations.
