Billy Blaze destroyed the plans of an alien race, which in the second installment of the Commander Keen cycle came to Earth with the intention of conquering it. Now the eight-year-old hero takes a course on his native planet Vorticons. The boy's main target is the Great Intellect - the alien leader who enslaved his fellow men and then forced them to follow their orders. But before Billy can face the biggest enemy, he will have to find him.

The third episode of Commander Keen's adventures is realized in the same style as the previous products from this series. The struggle begins on a map showing the world of Vorticons. Entering one of the locations on the board, we choose a stage. At this point the game turns into a traditional platformer. The player must reach the exit, overcoming obstacles encountered and numerous opponents. In the liquidation of the latter Blaze is helped by a gun. The boy is also equipped with a weather stick, which enables him to make longer jumps. If Keen dies while completing the task, the player goes back to the map of the world, losing one of the additional "live". You can, however, continue the game by entering the previously selected location again.

Episode Keen Must Die! closes the first trilogy with Commander Keen in the lead role, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that also in technical terms the product doesn't differ from its predecessors. The game only supports EGA mode, so it doesn't offer stunning graphics. The changes did not affect the soundtrack, which consists of PC Speaker's squeaks.
