If you’re a fan of killing demons and the like as an angelic force of destruction, then Crimson Moon is easily worth the $19.99 USD asking price. And hell, even if you’re not, it might still be worth it just to have another fun co-op game to play with friends.

Crimson Moon is what happens when you combine Soulslikes, Roguelikes, and tie it together with good music. A good time for action fans.

The main pros of the game

  • Visuals and Art Style: Many players praised the game's aesthetic, describing it as beautiful and reminiscent of titles like *Darksiders*. The gothic and dark fantasy themes resonate well with the game's premise.
  • Combat Mechanics: The combat system is generally well-received, with players appreciating the weight and intentionality of attacks, as well as the satisfaction of charged and jump attacks.
  • Co-op Gameplay: The game supports two-player co-op, which is seen as a strong point, adding to the fun and engagement, especially when playing with friends.
  • Potential for Build Variety: Players noted that there are opportunities to experiment with different builds and gear combinations, which can lead to varied playstyles.
  • Roguelike Elements: The extraction mechanics and the ability to upgrade gear found during runs were appreciated, providing a sense of progression.

The main cons of the game

  • Camera Issues: The camera control is frequently criticized for being chaotic and difficult to manage, especially during boss fights and chaotic combat situations. Many players mentioned that it detracts significantly from the gameplay experience.
  • Controls and Keybinding Issues: The lack of keybinding options for keyboard and mouse users is a major complaint. Players expressed frustration over the inability to customize controls, which is seen as a basic necessity in modern games.
  • Bugs and Technical Issues: Numerous bugs, particularly in multiplayer mode, were reported, including crashes and loss of progress. Many players experienced issues with the game’s mechanics not functioning as intended.
  • Limited Enemy Variety: Players noted a lack of diverse enemy types, leading to repetitive encounters. The game feels short in terms of content, with several users completing it quickly.
  • Loot and Inventory Management: Problems with loot sharing in co-op, as well as inventory management, were highlighted. Players expressed a desire for instanced loot and better organization of gear.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Better UI and Information: Users called for clearer explanations of game mechanics, including damage types, status effects, and gear bonuses. The UI was described as cluttered and lacking essential information.
  • Transmog System: Players requested a transmog system to allow them to change the appearance of their gear without sacrificing stats, which would enhance the customization aspect.
  • Shared Progression in Co-op: Many players expressed disappointment that co-op partners do not share quest progress or loot, which diminishes the incentive to play together.
  • Expanded Build Options: While players enjoyed the potential for builds, they noted that more weapon types and unique movesets would enhance gameplay diversity.
  • Replayability Features: Suggestions included adding roguelike elements such as modifiers for runs, more varied layouts, and additional challenges to extend the game's longevity.

Summary

  • Overall, while Crimson Moon has a solid foundation with appealing visuals and engaging combat, it currently suffers from significant technical issues and design oversights that hinder the overall experience. Many players remain hopeful for future updates and improvements.
