A co-op-based first-person action game, where our primary goal is to escape from prison. We play as one of the "gummy" inmates, and we can choose between going silent (digging a tunnel or using the vents) or engaging in open combat (like shooting at enemies, driving a van, or escaping using a helicopter).
Escaping from prison is an endeavor that requires either perseverance (if we attempt it solo) or collaboration with other inmates (if we decide on a group "early release"). The independent studio Two Star Games (known for the game Choo-Choo Charles) decided to base the project described here on this second idea, resulting in a cooperative action title titled Cuffbust.
In Cuffbust events are viewed from a first-person perspective (FPP).
We take on the role of colorful, "gummy" creatures in the game. Our task is to leave the prison in one piece. The method we choose depends on our individual idea. We can try to do it quietly by digging a tunnel or using ventilation shafts, or quite the opposite—by causing real chaos, using a prison van or helicopter for the escape.
The game allows us to destroy elements of the environment (making holes in walls or neutralizing the anti-aircraft defense system), rely on surveillance (to check the patrol routes of guards), use the intercom to communicate with our fellow inmates on the other side of the prison complex, and solve environmental puzzles based on object manipulation (thus opening alternative escape routes).
Many of these activities are carried out using a wide range of items that fall into our hands. Among them, we find melee weapons (which we use to strike enemies), riot shields (protecting us from damage), ID cards (providing access to restricted areas of the prison), and firearms. Additionally, we can equip ourselves with cosmetic add-ons that allow us to stand out among other inmates.
Cuffbust was designed for online multiplayer gameplay. We can cooperate with other players, openly compete, or pretend to cooperate only to betray them at the least expected moment (for example, not waiting for them during an escape on a helicopter).
Moreover, the game includes a map editor that allows players to create their own locations.
