Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey is a three-dimensional adventure game set in 19th century London. The production combines supernatural motifs and characters known from Arthurian legends with a criminal story about Jack the Ripper and offers an extensive feature path shaped by the player's choices. The independent developer Salix Games is responsible for creating this title (in the studio you can find former Rocksteady and Lionhead employees) and it is his debut project.

Plot

The story presented in Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey combines a true historical background - the story of the brutal serial murderer Jack the Ripper - with supernatural threads of Arthurian legends. The plot is presented from the perspective of three characters: the legendary Sir Lancelot Du Lac and Morgan Le Fey, as well as Mary Jane Kelly, a resident of London's Whitechapel district (historically she is the last victim of the murderer). The screenplay was written by Philip Huxley, known for script of Batman: Arkham Knight, and BAFTA award winner Jessica Saunders.

Mechanics

In Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey we observe the action from the third person perspective. The game consists mainly in exploring faithfully recreated fragments of nineteenth-century London (location designs were consulted with experts dealing with the discussed historical epoch), conversations with characters (mainly various residents of the Whitechapel district), interacting with the presented world, collecting objects and solving various kinds of riddles. The main goal is to get to know the whole plot.

During the game we control three different heroes. Each of them has its own character, problems and characteristic approach to the world. The threads of the protagonists intertwine and influence each other. What is important, the story is non-linear in nature - it is shaped by our choices, so the story experienced by one player may differ significantly from the one that will be shared by the other player.

It is worth noting that in the production of Salix Games studio we can visit realistically presented places of crime - various details have been developed on the basis of testimonies of witnesses and documents from a real investigation conducted by the London police in the case of Jack the Ripper.

Game modes

In Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey we can only play alone. The basis of the game is a multithreaded feature campaign.

Technical aspects

Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey has attractive three-dimensional graphics. Production is not strong on realism - instead, the creators decided to use an exaggerated, slightly comic style, which well complements the dark subject matter of their title. The atmosphere of the game is also complemented by an atmospheric soundtrack and excellent voice acting - we will hear actors known from the series Black Mirror (Alexandra Roach), House of Horror (Perdita Weeks), as well as RPG Dragon Age (Gareth David-Lloyd).

It is worth noting that due to its subject matter the production of Salix Games team is suitable only for adult players.
