Derelicts is a cooperative survival game set on a contaminated Earth. Throughout our adventure, we build a haven in a land dealing with radiation, extreme weather, and mutated creatures. Every day becomes a fight for survival - alone or with fellow survivors.
Derelicts is an indie survival game by Romain Piquot. It was created in Unreal Engine 5 and designed for solo play or co-op with up to 4 people. The game takes us to an Earth that's devastated by a radiation disaster. This is a world where collecting resources, building a base, and harnessing energy from nature - water, wind, and sun - becomes crucial.
In Derelicts we observe the action from a first-person perspective. The core gameplay revolves around survival, exploration, and construction. We need to gather resources, cut down trees, find metals and materials, and then build shelters and functional buildings.
A unique aspect of the game is the nature-based energy system: we can use water (watermills), wind (turbines), and solar panels to power the base, depending on the weather and time of day. Water is also used for transporting wood - through channels and a system of pumps, which allows for the automation of activities, such as processing raw material into boards.
The game world is hostile: in addition to threats from mutated humans and animals, in our adventure we also contend with the weather - frost, storms, snow - which affects energy production and makes survival difficult. Exploration involves discovering areas, excavations, searching for technologies and blueprints that allow for the development of the base, creating better equipment, and reaching closed zones that serve as so-called dungeons.
Derelicts was designed as both a single-player and cooperative experience. The game allows for solo survival in an open world, where we are solely responsible for building a base, gathering resources, and defending against threats.
The production also supports coop gameplay for up to four people, enabling the creation of a shared settlement, task sharing, and facing dangers as a group.
In the world of Derelicts, Earth has been devastated by a mysterious mechanism that flooded the planet with radiation. Only a few survivors - daredevils and escapees - have the chance to return to the ground and discover the cause of the catastrophe. As castaways, we return to the ruined planet not only to survive but also to build a base and investigate the source of the radiation.
