Ecotone

Gameplay

The game offers three visually distinctive areas, and each of them is further divided into 15 levels. Gameplay revolves around overcoming obstacles, eluding strange monsters, jumping from one platform to another, and solving environmental logic puzzles using the abilities that you gradually unlock as you make progress. In time, you will take control of other characters as well. Sometimes you will encounter strictly arcade sequences, where you have to prove your agility to a degree no lesser than in Limbo or Super Meat Boy. What is especially interesting about Ecotone, is the variety of levels – each one is different and unique in a way. One may require you to be fast and agile, while another emphasizes logical thinking, and yet another expects you stop time or invert the gravity in order to proceed. Each level begins with a short sequence introducing its rules.

Technology

Visually, Ecotone is a combination of 2D backgrounds and 3D objects. Locations are mostly dark, sometimes deprived of colors, which deepens immersion in the game’s world. When it comes to the artwork style, Ecotone bears much resemblance to World of Goo, a game by 2D Boy studio. No less important are sounds of environment and the soundtrack that adds to the game’s unique atmosphere.
