Escape Simulator is a puzzle game in the style of escape rooms. It was developed by an independent team Pine Studio - authors of such productions as SEUM: Speedrunners from Hell or The Academy: The First Riddle. Moreover, the designers of the real escape rooms supervised it.

Plot

In Escape Simulator our task is to escape from many different rooms. Particular locations are divided into three parts, and each of them tells a different simple story. While in Labyrinth of Egypt we find ourselves in an ancient Egyptian labyrinth, Adrift in Space takes us on board of a damaged spaceship, which has taken a collision course with the Sun, and in Edgewood Mansion a Victorian mystery awaits to be solved.

The main cons of the game

  • Co-op Limitations: Some players feel that the puzzles are better suited for solo play, and co-op can detract from the experience, making it less enjoyable.
  • Repetitive Mechanics: A few reviews mention that some puzzles can feel repetitive, following a similar formula across different rooms, which may lead to a lack of variety.
  • Lack of Replayability: Once puzzles are solved, there is little incentive to replay them, as they remain unchanged.
  • Technical Issues: Some users report glitches, crashes, and issues with multiplayer connectivity, which can hinder the experience.
  • Timer Pressure: The presence of a timer can create unnecessary stress for some players, detracting from the enjoyment of solving puzzles at their own pace.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Difficulty Settings: Players express a desire for adjustable difficulty levels to cater to different skill levels, particularly for beginners.
  • Save Feature: The absence of a save feature for longer puzzles is a common complaint, as players would like the ability to resume their progress without starting over.
  • Multiplayer Improvements: Users suggest the need for a more robust multiplayer system, including dedicated servers or random matchmaking, to enhance the social aspect of the game.
  • More Diverse Puzzle Solutions: Some players wish for puzzles to have multiple solutions, similar to real-life escape rooms, to increase the variety and replayability of the gameplay.
  • Better Inventory Management: A more efficient way to manage clues and important items would enhance the gameplay experience, as players currently find the inventory system cumbersome.

Summary

  • Overall, "Escape Simulator" is well-received for its engaging puzzles and community-driven content, though it faces criticism regarding its co-op experience, replayability, and some technical issues.
