Gears 6

Gears 6 (hypothetical title) is the sixth main installment of the TPP shooter series, launched in 2006. The game was developed by The Coalition studio, formerly known as Black Tusk Studios, which took over the series from Epic Games in 2014.

Official game announcement

Gears 6 has not been officially announced yet. Nevertheless, Jeff Grubb, an industry journalist known for providing reliable information from behind the scenes, suggested in one of the podcasts on the Kinda Funny Games YouTube channel that the game may be shown to the world in the summer of 2024.

Microsoft controls the brand and they will have two potential opportunities to present Gears 6 to fans. We are talking about the June Xbox Games Showcase and Summer Game Fest.

Potential release date and platforms

Gears 6 does not have an official release date set yet. However, Parris Lilly, one of the hosts of the above-mentioned podcast, speculated that the game may be released only on the tenth generation of consoles. Due to the fact that the first, then the fourth and all subsequent installments of the series appeared not only on consoles, but also on personal computers, it can be expected that Gears 6 will not skip PC.

Plot and gameplay

We do not know the plot outline of Gears 6, however, it can be assumed that the game will continue the story from the fifth part of the series. It is unknown whether the main character of the game will once again be Kait Diaz, or will the creators allow us to play as JD Fenix or another character.

Gears 6 should draw heavily on the achievements of its predecessors. It is possible that the project will follow in the footsteps of the fifth part of the series, which was the first in the history of the brand to offer locations with an open structure.

Game modes

Considering what the previous titles under this banner have offered, Gears 6 should feature both a story campaign and a multiplayer mode. As the job advertisement from May 2022 suggests, the game will include gameplay variants based on cooperation and competition with other players.

Technical aspects

Gears 6 will be the first installment of the series to use Unreal Engine 5. In May 2021, The Coalition studio announced that it will use Epic Games' new technology in a number of its new projects. It is expected that Gears 6 is the leader among the team's endeavors.
