A third-person action game, featuring a slasher-like combat system. The gameplay in Godbreakers is about fighting various enemies (including bosses). There's an important Godbreak mechanic, allowing to consume powers of our opponents and to launch powerful attacks.
The Swedish development studio To The Sky was founded under the umbrella of Thunderful company in 2021. The debut project of this team is the game Godbreakers described here - an action title with RPG elements and a combat system reminiscent of slashers.
In Godbreakers all of the events are viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). During the game we navigate through procedurally generated locations and face hordes of enemies. The adventure takes us to places such as the swampy Sabboath and the colorful Kar-Aja.
Powerful bosses are among the enemies we have to face. Battles with them are divided into phases, and the key to success on the battlefield is learning their attack patterns and skillfully leveraging the strengths of our characters.
The combat system rewards dexterity, reflexes, and the ability to create impressive combos. Additionally, any attack can be interrupted at any moment, providing us with uninterrupted control over the character.
A key role is played by the mechanics of weakening enemies and absorbing their abilities to use against them. Moreover, after charging energy, we can unleash a powerful attack called Godbreak. If used skillfully, it can turn the tide of the battle.
The game provides us with a range of character archetypes, which we expand as we progress. They are diversified in terms of preferred weaponry, as well as combat traits and skills. Combined with acquiring powerful items and weapons along the way, all of this encourages experimenting with various builds.
Additionally, there are special modifiers waiting to be tested, which affect gameplay in various ways.
Godbreakers can be played solo or in online co-op mode for up to 4 people. The game allows individual participants to merge attacks into complex combos.
Godbreakers transports us to a science fiction universe devastated by AI created by humanity. We take on the role of a character who is the last hope in the fight against artificial intelligence. As we traverse bizarre worlds, we try to avert the threat before all hope for saving our species is lost.
