An action RPG focused on controlling and gradually developing mechs, serving as a sequel to a game from 1999. Heavy Gear III changes the formula known from previous installments, offering an open world of Badlands instead of participating in traditional single missions.
The Heavy Gear series has a history dating back to 1997 (its universe has existed for three years longer), but more than a quarter of a century has passed between the premieres of its full-fledged second and third installments (in the meantime, the online project Heavy Gear Assault was released in early access in 2017, but abandoned soon after). The reactivation of the brand in digital form was undertaken by Flameborn Games from Montreal, which worked under the supervision of the original developers.
Similar to previous installments of the series, in Heavy Gear 3 we take control of gigantic mechs. The game introduces a significant change compared to its predecessors, as its creators decided to abandon a traditional mission system. Instead, we are given an open world that we can freely explore. We're talking about the desert region of Badlands, located on the planet Terra Nova.
The driving force of the game are tasks pushing the plot forward and allowing us to better understand this universe. Dynamic battles with enemy forces play an important role here. There are also RPG elements, within which we gradually develop our walking colossus.
The Heavy Gear world was created for a tabletop battle game by Dream Pod 9 company. This IP presents us with a vision of the future in which humanity colonizes other planets, and armed and political conflicts are commonplace. On the battlefield, the titular Gears, which are powerful mechs, play a crucial role.
Heavy Gear 3 operates on the Unreal Engine 5.
