The plot revolves around the title "home of a thousand doors", which is a portal for ghosts to move to another world. The player directs the actions of Kate Reed, a supernaturally talented writer who is invited to take part in a spiritualistic screening.
Home of a Thousand Doors: Family Secrets is the first installment of a series of casual adventures stylized on an atmospheric ghost story. The title was produced by the development team of Alawar Five BN studio, known for such games as Settlement: Colossus and Vampires vs. Zombies.
The protagonist of House of a Thousand Doors: Family Secrets is Kate Reed, a writer who is in the midst of a creative crisis. One day she receives an invitation to take part in a spirits show. Judging that this will help her break the deadlock, the woman decides to go to the title "house of a thousand doors". Soon he discovers that it acts as an inter-dimensional portal, enabling the souls of the deceased to move to another world. Inhabitants of this magnificent residence - the Lancaster family is the medium, and she herself is endowed with the ability to make contact with spirits.
While helping Kate, the player gets to know the next threads of a confusing plot, in which the motif of crime and the wrong accusation against the deceased grandmother of the main character appears. The creators have prepared an impressive number of 70 (and in the collector's edition 90) locations, which can be visited during the game. The game is a mix of puzzles and puzzles like "hidden objects".
Home of a Thousand Doors: Family secrets draw attention to the high quality of the visual setting. Two-dimensional graphics are based on hand-drawn backgrounds enriched with animations and light effects. The run of the story is illustrated by 12 carefully prepared cut-scenes.
