IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Normandy is the next installment in a series of flight simulators set during the Second World War. This time, the game focuses on the famous invasion of Normandy, which took place in the summer of 1944. The title offers an extensive list of flyable airplanes, a faithfully reproduced map of the conflict, as well as a number of improvements in the technical layer compared to the previous games. The developers from 777 Studios, who have been consistently developing this series for years, are responsible for its creation. The publisher is again 1C.

Plot

The invasion of German-occupied Normandy began on June 6, 1944 and was one of the turning points of the Second World War. Thanks to a successful offensive, the Allies managed to liberate Paris and launch an offensive on the German border. All types of troops took part in the battles in this war theatre - including the air force, which played a very important role throughout World War II.

Mechanics

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Normandy is a classic flight simulator, in which we have the opportunity to fly numerous aircraft from the Second World War. The list includes such types as: P-51B/C, P-47D "Razorback", Typhoon Mk.Ib, Mosquito F.B. Mk.VI, Spifire Mk.XIV, Bf 109 G-6 "Late", Fw 190 A-6, Ju 88 C-6a, Me 410 and Ar 234. Several other machines - C-47 Dakota, B-26 Marauder and V-1 Buzz Bomb - also appear as opponents.

The action takes place on a large map covering a large part of Normandy, southern England and the French region of Calais. It is worth noting that the creators prepared two variants of the location: before and after the invasion. On the battlefield, apart from airplanes, we will also see numerous land vehicles, ships, bunkers and infantry. Thanks to this, the virtual battle for Normandy should be a challenge adequate to its historical counterpart.

Game modes

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Normandy can be played solo or with others. The game offers a single-player mode, a story campaign (focused on a specific moment of battle) and a career mode showing the events beginning with the preparations for the invasion to the aftermath of D-Day, the day of landing that started the offensive.

Battle of Normandy also contains several online modes, and the developers have prepared something for fans of competing with others, as well as content that will please fans of cooperation (you can for example fly one plane together with other players). In addition, the title also supports missions created by users.

Technical aspects

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Normandy is powered by modified version of Digital Warfare Engine. The creators have made a few improvements to the rendering, which makes the game more realistic than any of the earlier games in the series. The title offers realistically reproduced models of airplanes and ground vehicles, as well as spectacularly presented surroundings.
