The Original Fire Games studio achieved considerable success with its debut project - the arcade car game titled Circuit Superstars, released in 2021. This caught the attention of the developers behind the sim racing powerhouse that is iRacing, prompting them to enter into a collaboration aimed at creating a new game that would combine the strengths of both mentioned titles. Thus, iRacing Arcade was born.

Gameplay

iRacing Arcade offers a simple and accessible driving model, although it takes into account factors such as car damage, or tire and fuel wear. It reminds of Circuit Superstars with these features, just like thanks to the heavily stylized, cartoonish graphic design, which is characterized by intense colors and distorted, caricatured shapes of vehicles. However, it deviates with the camera, which in iRacing Arcade has been lowered and moved behind the cars (into a "chase" position).

DayOne: 7.5 / 10 by Győző Baki

iRacing Arcade is a good time, but it comes short of true greatness. The presentation is cute, and the driving model makes for a solid arcade romp to waste some time on. But the snappy controls make faster cars not very pleasant to drive, which heavily impacts its viability as a “serious” arcade racer. A shame, because it boasts a fairly impressive list of tracks, a solid online suite and leaderboards, as well, on top of being tremendously well optimized.

Insider Gaming: 6 / 10 by Michael Straw

With chaotic racing and AI that shows no regard for those around them, iRacing Arcade has its moments of fun on the track and in career mode. Unfortunately, it's held back by limited options and a poor multiplayer experience.

Worth Playing: 9 / 10 by Tony "OUberLord" Mitera

There are two groups I see iRacing Arcade appealing to the most: people who are new to racing games in general and people who want something racing-themed for some unserious fun. It's a bit brilliant that iRacing Arcade sets up the former with a pipeline to get into the more serious iRacing platform. Despite having my own iRacing account and a significant sim racing setup of my own, I had a lot of fun with iRacing Arcade. It is a simpler game, not in a way that makes it feel inferior, but in a way that makes it stand out as an option to just get in some quick, casual racing fun.

The main pros of the game

  • Fun Driving Experience: Many players praise the handling of the cars, describing it as satisfying and enjoyable, with distinct driving experiences across different vehicles.
  • Visual Appeal: The graphics and art style are well-received, with many noting the aesthetic quality of the tracks and vehicles.
  • Career Mode: The career mode is seen as engaging, with the addition of a city-building aspect that allows players to manage their racing team and earn boosts for races.
  • Challenging AI: The AI is noted for being aggressive and providing a challenging racing experience, adding to the excitement of races.
  • Potential for Future Updates: Some players express optimism about the game's future, hoping for more content and features to be added over time.

The main cons of the game

  • Limited Content: Users frequently mention the small number of cars (only 8) and tracks (14), leading to a feeling of repetitiveness after a short playtime.
  • Lack of Public Multiplayer: The absence of public multiplayer lobbies is a significant drawback, as players can only join private matches using codes, limiting the ability to race with random players.
  • AI Behavior: While the AI is aggressive, many players find it frustrating that the AI can be overly physical, often causing collisions that detract from the racing experience.
  • Technical Issues: Some reviews mention performance problems, such as frame rate drops, particularly on certain platforms like the Steam Deck.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Public Matchmaking: A common request is for the implementation of public matchmaking to allow players to easily find and join races with others.
  • More Cars and Tracks: Players express a desire for a broader selection of vehicles and circuits, including iconic tracks and more licensed cars.
  • Qualifying Sessions: Many users want qualifying sessions to be included in career mode, as the current system starts players in last place for every race, which can be frustrating.
  • Improved AI Behavior: Suggestions include making the AI less aggressive and more realistic in their racing tactics to enhance the overall experience.
  • Customization Options: Players would like to see more options for vehicle customization and tuning, as well as additional gameplay mechanics like weather effects or more detailed pit stop strategies.

Summary

  • Overall, while iRacing Arcade has a solid foundation and enjoyable gameplay, it currently suffers from a lack of content and features that limit its long-term appeal. Many players are hopeful for future updates that could address these concerns.
