John Carpenter's Toxic Commando is a postapocalyptic FPS inspired by John Carpenter's movies. The players control titular commandos, hunting a monster turning people into zombies.
John Carpenter's Toxic Commando is a first-person shooter based on the works of John Carpenter, an American director mainly known for his 1980s horror movies (including The Fog, The Thing and Christine). It was developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment.
The game is set in the near future. A failed attempt to control Earth's nuclear energy has released an eldritch monster - the Sludge God. The beast starts terraforming the area, destroying the soil and turning people into zombies.
The last hope humanity has against the monster is the scientist who's freed it in the first place. In order to carry out his plan, he needs a group of mercenaries. They're all, unfortunately, too expensive, and so he must make do with the titular Toxic Commandos.
The player controls one of the titular characters, fighting against the Sludge God's undead hordes alone or alongside friends. The game features several character classes, which differ in terms of playstyle and equipment.
Our characters can be equipped with short and long firearms, grenades and katanas. We can cut down undead using our characters' special abilities or running them down with vehicles.
The game's story campaign can be completed in its entirety in singleplayer and online co-op.

The „toxic” commando team aspires to become the new Left 4 Dead. And indeed - the foundations of co-op gameplay are solid, hordes of zombies are spectacular. But is that enough for the game to be noticed once it releases?

A game called Toxic Commando, a dynamic FPS developed by John Carpenter, has been announced. Here is its first, slightly crazy trailer.

Game Ratings for John Carpenter's Toxic Commando Video Game.
MKAU Gaming: 9 / 10 by Mike Bridge
Overall, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando is a very solid game in a genre that is flooded. Except for the vehicle aspect, it doesn’t do anything different that sets it apart from other zombie horde games, but it is still a quality product and scores very highly in my opinion. By yourself or with a few mates, you will have hours of fun. The different zombies, the optimised hordes, the storyline and beautiful environment really make this title the complete package.
Life is Xbox: 40 / 100
Toxic Commando is a great example of how to market your game. Attach a well-known, beloved name to your project, have an impactful demo, and show no in-game screenshots on your store page. However, Toxic Commando is also a great example on how to not release your game. Seven actual levels of rinse and repeat game mechanics, with no-post game content or alternative game modes, makes this one of 2026’s worst releases so far. A short, bland, and forgettable story that even somehow manages to take the satisfaction of killing the final boss away from you.
Digital Chumps: 8 / 10 by Ben Sheene
John Carpenter's Toxic Commando is as over-the-top as its name implies. By introducing just enough twists to a tried and true formula, it's hard to resist the allure of four friends banding together to eviscerate hordes of monsters.
