Killing Time is a FPS developed by 3DO. The game launched in 1995 on the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, while the release of the PC edition took place a year later.

Story

The action of Killing Time takes place in the 1940s. The plot focuses on an ancient artifact, the Thot's water clock, found by an expedition under the patronage of Tess Conway. The device was supposed to provide the owner with eternal life, which was a direct reason why the rich heiress decided to steal it and hide together with her partners in her property in Matinicus Isle, Maine.

The player takes on the role of a former Egyptian student, infiltrating Tess' headquarters at the order of Dr. Hargrove. His aim is to take back the artifact from the hands of the self-proclaimed owner. Unfortunately, Conway and her friends managed to perform a mysterious ritual on the night of the summer solstice - as a result, they were turned into monsters, undead, and spirits. The task ahead of us is to face the hordes of adversaries, solve the mystery behind these events and to find and destroy the clock itself.

Mechanics

The premise of Killing Time is based on classic formula of the genre. The game is about exploring the environment, solving environmental puzzles, collecting vases containing fragments of Tess' soul and fighting enemies. We have at our disposal an extensive arsenal, including both melee weapons (in the form of a crowbar), as well as firearms, such as handguns, rifles, or even Thompson's machine gun, also known as Tommy Gun. In addition, we make use of Molotov cocktails, flamethrowers, as well as the magical ankh cross, thanks to which we can destroy many enemies simultaneously. In addition to the standard "cannon fodder", we have to eliminate much larger specimens, characterized by higher endurance and more powerful attacks.

Technical aspects

At the time of the release, the three-dimensional visuals of Killing Time were considered high quality. Until now, the presence of digitized actors, appearing not only in cutscenes but also in the gameplay itself, deserves attention.
