A city builder about constructing autonomous cities which can independently take care of the needs of their residents and conduct trade. The gameplay in Let Them Trade takes place on a wooden board. Our tasks include planning trade routes, expanding settlements and gathering resources.
Spaceflower is an independent German development studio, which put into the hands of players a hybrid of platform and puzzle game under the title World Splitter. The developers then got to work on two more projects. One of them is Let Them Trade, described here, a city builder in which our task is to erect cities connected to each other by trade routes.
In Let Them Trade we view events from a bird's eye view. The gameplay takes place on a board covered with a grid of hexagonal p?les. A board in the literal sense of the word, because the game world is presented in the form of a diorama laid out on a table, and all its elements are stylized as if made of wood.
A key element of the gameplay is the construction of autonomous cities, which independently take care of the needs of their inhabitants and trade with other settlements.
We, on the other hand, have to make sure that buildings allowing the accumulation of certain resources are placed on fields containing the appropriate resources. In addition, we should create a network of trade routes linking different centers (which ensures constant and smooth turnover of goods).
In addition, as you progress you will gain access to new buildings and other improvements, which will gradually develop your domains.
Atthe heart of the board is our castle, which serves as a command center and a storehouse of resources. Although we do not manage trade directly, we can influence the flow of goods and prices through logistics planning. In addition, we can take advantage of changing market moods and buy selected goods when they are cheap, and then sell them at a high profit when they start to become more expensive as a result of various events occurring in the game world.
These events include bandit attacks. We prevent them by recruiting soldiers in advance and sending them into battle against enemies. In addition to combat units, we can also employ reconnaissance units, which discover new territories and provide us with access to new resources.
Let Them Trade can only be played as a single player. The title includes a campaign composed of scenarios offering various tasks and challenges, as well as a sandbox mode, where you don't have to look at any goals and restrictions imposed from the top.
