The main cons of the game

  • Steep Learning Curve: The time mechanics and combat system can be overwhelming for new players, leading to frustration, especially for those unfamiliar with the series.
  • Loneliness of Solo Play: With only Lightning as the playable character, the absence of party dynamics can disappoint fans who enjoy team synergy and traditional RPG mechanics.

  • Side Quests Quality: The side quests can vary significantly in quality, with some feeling repetitive or lacking depth.
  • Time Limit Stress: The in-game time limit can create pressure and detract from exploration, making the experience feel rushed for some players.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Party System: Many players missed having a traditional party system, as the solo gameplay with Lightning felt lacking in character dynamics and synergy.
  • More Exploration Freedom: Some players expressed a desire for less time pressure, allowing for more leisurely exploration of the game world without the constant ticking clock.
  • Improved Quest Markers: The absence of quest markers on the map was a common complaint, with players wanting clearer guidance on quest locations and objectives.
  • Expanded Storytelling for Characters: Fans of the previous games wanted deeper interactions and developments for returning characters, feeling that their arcs were not fully explored.
  • Quality of Life Improvements: Players wished for enhancements like better camera controls and smoother gameplay mechanics to improve the overall experience.

Summary

  • Overall, while LIGHTNING RETURNS™: FINAL FANTASY® XIII has its strengths, particularly in combat and emotional storytelling, it also faces significant criticisms regarding its gameplay mechanics, pacing, and accessibility for new players.
