Masters of the Universe: He-Man - Defender of Grayskull is an action game developed by Savage Entertainment based on the license of the animated series known as He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Although the title was planned as a multiplatform game, it eventually appeared only on PS2, published by Midas Interactive.

Story

The main character of Masters of the Universe: He-Man - Defender of Grayskull is the eponymous He-Man, the most powerful man in the Universe. The action of the game begins when the protagonist is outside of Castle Greyskull - the source of his supernatural strength. When the fortress falls victim to an invasion by an army commanded by his eternal enemy, the Skeletor, the Sorceress has no other choice but to use her remaining powers. Unfortunately, although this enables her to stop the invasion for a while, it also weakens He-Man himself, who, after receiving the alarming news, immediately sets off on a return trip home, gradually regaining his lost powers.

Mechanics

In Masters of the Universe: He-Man - Defender of Grayskull we observe the action from the third-person perspective. In the course of the game, we are mainly engaged in exploration (before the hero manages to return to Grayskull, he has to cross a large part of the land of Eternia), jumping over platforms, avoiding traps and fighting enemies.

The battles take place in real-time and although at first, the hero has only a two-handed sword at his disposal, over time he acquires other weapons - a one-handed sword and shield, as well as a magical axe. Regardless of which tool we use at any given moment, success is ensured above all by the skillful use of basic and special attacks, which can be chained into spectacular combinations; moreover, when we fill the special power indicator of Castle Greyskull we can launch the most powerful attacks sowing panic in the ranks of enemies.

In addition to common opponents, we are faced with a variety of bosses, including characters known from the original series (such as Beast Man or Tri-Klops), as well as completely new characters that He-Man meets for the first time. Interestingly, after defeat, some of them decide to help He-Man, joining the circle of his allies, consisting not only of the aforementioned Sorceress but also the Battle Cat, Man-at-Arms and Teela.

Technical aspects

Masters of the Universe: He-Man - Defender of Grayskull features three-dimensional visuals that do not stand out from other games of the era. The whole thins is kept in the style that loosely refers to the animated original.
