The World League Soccer football simulation series debuted in June 1998 as Eidos' response to the popularity of such series as FIFA and Actua Soccer. Despite not the best reviews of the World League Soccer'98, Eidos decided to continue in the same year, once again entrusting Silicon Dreams to the development studio. The face of the brand was Michael Owen, one of the most popular English footballers of the late 1990s.

Following the example of competitive production, the task of a player in Michael Owen's World League Soccer '99 is to direct the actions of players of the club or national team of their choice in friendly, league or cup competitions. Unfortunately, the game does not have official football organization licenses, and thus the players' names are fictitious (and more precisely, they have been deliberately misrepresented).

Available play modes include training, single match, league or cup games. Players can also create their own football tournaments or modify the games in the database.

In terms of gameplay, Michael Owen's World League Soccer '99 is based on classic solutions. The game consists primarily in the ability to pass the ball between the players, giving strong shots at the opponent's goal and performing spectacular dribbling and slides. Unique elements include, for example, the option of viewing repetitions from the perspective of a side referee.

The visual quality of Michael Owen's World League Soccer '99 presents an average level for its time. You may like the stadium scenery and quite detailed facial features of the players. Unfortunately, the three-dimensional silhouettes of players make a caricature impression.
