A first-person horror adventure game that started as a research project by a group of students from University of South California. We play as a member of Neurostalgia Institute, which focuses on unveiling the secrets within the patients’ minds. Gameplay comes down to exploring, solving puzzles and discovering mysteries hidden by the inmates.
Nevermind is a horror adventure game. The production has been developed as a research project of a group of students at the University of Southern California (USC), led by Erin Reynolds.
We assume the role of an employee of Neurostalgia Institute. The purpose of this organization is to discover the secrets hidden in the depths of consciousness of patients whose traumatic experiences have led to erasure of some memories. This objective can be achieved thanks to the fact that the research facility has the technology allowing to enter people's minds. The player becomes a so-called Neuroprober and sets off to look for information that may help improve the mental state of patient.
The gameplay involves first-person perspective, free exploration of the virtual world, and puzzle solving. Throughout the game we visit minds of agonized people, consequently the entire production has a horror-like atmosphere. Nevermind requires a cardiac monitoring device. It enables us to check our pulse and thus assess the level of our fear, and then modify the gameplay accordingly. The more we are scared, the more difficult it becomes to play. In contrast, when we feel relaxed, the virtual world also becomes more friendly. The aim of the developers was to create a production in which the player must learn to control their own stress. The skills we train this way may prove useful in the “real” life.

Game Ratings for Nevermind Video Game.
Marooners' Rock: 7.4 / 10 by Matt Kowalski
Although Nevermind might have been an eye-opening experience the first play through, the gameplay became rather stale quickly. Experiencing the memories of the patients through a first person experience might be great for VR, but on the Xbox One it neither hinders nor helps the experience.
GameSpew: 7 / 10 by Chris McMullen
If you let it gets its hooks into you, you'll be able to tolerate its flaws. While it won't sate hardcore horror fans, Nevermind is visually and thematically striking enough to be worth a look.
ThisGenGaming: 7 / 10 by Jordan Phipps
Nevermind is a game unlike any I have ever played before and one that is worth experiencing. I would have preferred it to be much scarier than it is, perhaps turning to cult classic Eternal Darkness for inspiration. Once you complete the five missions there isn’t much incentive to collect all the memories, aside from achievements/trophies. The game is also a bit pricey at $19.99 USD, which may turn some off. Even though I didn’t get scared, I never knew what to expect when probing the mind of the next patient. If you are up for trying something new and have some extra cash, Nevermind will definitely get you thinking.
