Oddly Enough: Pied Piper is an attempt to egranize the German folklore, known primarily through one of the fairy tales of the brothers Grimm. Challenges were taken up by Alawar Entertainment development studio, creating a game designed for a slightly more ambitious group of casual market audience (occasional players).

The story of Oddly Enough: Pied Piper refers to the events presented in the legend. The action takes place in a small town of Hameln. Inhabitants plagued by the plague of rats rented a rat who, thanks to the music from the magic flute, managed to lure rodents outside the city walls and drown them in the nearby river. Unfortunately, greedy bourgeoisie refused him the promised payment for the work he did. In retaliation, the player led all the children out of town.

The player plays the role of a tax collector, and his task is to collect the gold coins that were promised to the rat. The task turns out to be extremely difficult, because the inhabitants of Hameln are extremely stingy and do not hurry to reach for purses, even if it is children's life that is at stake.

Unlike most casual adventures, Oddly Enough: Pied Piper is all about exploring locations, talking to NPCs and solving more or less complex puzzles. Hidden-object puzzles also occur, although they play a much lesser role.

The game is distinguished by an attractive visual setting. Two-dimensional graphics are based on hand-made drawings, whose climate clearly refers to the atmosphere of a dark fairy tale. Noteworthy are the interestingly presented NPCs, which are archetypes of heroes often encountered in fairy tales and legends.
