A first-person survival game, featuring an open world filled with train tracks. Our center of attention in Railborn is our train, which we construct and gradually upgrade during the course of the game. We visit various locations and our ultimate goal is to find the train tracks leading into space.

Railborn is a survival game, set on a hostile planet crisscrossed by train tracks. It was developed by Washbear Studios, an independent development team from Canada, which has the game Parkasaurus in its portfolio.

Gameplay

In Railborn we watch the action from a first-person perspective (FPP).

Constructing a train

During the game, we take on the role of a character who is fighting for survival on a dying planet. Our main activity is the construction of a train that serves as a means of transportation, as well as a mobile command center and a base of operations.

We start modestly, with a wooden trolley. As we explore the game world, we gather resources that allow us to construct and improve our train, expanding it with additional, even multi-story carriages.

The content of these last ones varies, depending on what we decide to use them for. The game allows us to recreate various environments inside them. This is achieved using the plants collected along the way, making each of them a kind of separate "biome".

Exploration and struggle for survival

We move around the game world using an extensive network of tracks that cut through both picturesque valleys and the peaks of high mountains, as well as the bottom of the sea. We can visit locations such as abandoned colonist outposts or mysterious alien monoliths. It means that in addition to obtaining new resources we can also find mysteries for us to unravel.

Traveling through the game world is not a carefree activity. It requires us to skillfully manage the train's power systems and the flow of resources (including water and oxygen supplies), as well as growing vegetables as a source of food.

Final goal

Our ultimate goal is to set ourselves on tracks ascending into space, where we may perhaps find salvation for both ourselves and other colonists, as well as for the planet itself.
